Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022 for 44 billion dollars, the most expensive Big Tech purchase so far. He later changed it to X to develop a super app like WeChat. He planned to include his messaging, shopping, banking, job search, food delivery, and other features. Some users still referred to Twitter and tweeted using the old way despite new features like long posts and editing.
The platform is still in transition three years later. The rebrand has faced resistance, and the debate about who the platform is has become even louder. Now a new twist has appeared.
A former Twitter trademark lawyer, Stephen Coates, was the first to petition under what he calls Operation Bluebird. The petition claims that Elon Musk X Corp has “legally abandoned the TWITTER” mark because the trademark was not properly maintained after being renewed in 2023.
A new website has been set up on Twitter.New along with the petition. It will bring back a version of Twitter that revolves around real-time updates and trusted conversations. The website is not yet fully live, but users can preregister their usernames immediately. The feature works through a simple Request Your Handle button. There is already so much interest, and nearly one lakh usernames have been claimed.

The new website has a clear disclaimer. According to it, the platform plans to rebuild Twitter using an AI-based verification system. The goal is to restore the public square for news, announcements, entertainment, and honest conversations.
The move signals a fresh push to restore some of the old Twitter when the X rebrand remains divisive to users. The fight over who will control the future of the platform is not over, whether Operation Bluebird succeeds or not.
