Perplexity Commands and Shortcuts: Official List

Perplexity offers shortcuts that let users trigger commonly used AI workflows without writing the same long prompt again and again. These shortcuts are officially documented as part of Perplexity’s Comet browser.

To use a shortcut, type / in the Comet search bar or sidecar and select the shortcut you want. You can also add extra instructions before submitting the request.

Unlike traditional software commands, Perplexity shortcuts are reusable prompts. They can handle simple tasks as well as more advanced workflows involving research, browser tabs, files, and other sources.

Official Perplexity Shortcuts

1. /update-tabs

Helps organize browser tabs. The official example uses it to close tabs that haven’t been used recently and organize the remaining tabs by app.

2. /fact-check

Checks claims found in the current browser tab against credible sources and presents the results in an easy to read format.

3. /order-lunch

Can be used as a shortcut for a repeated food ordering workflow. Perplexity gives an example where the shortcut can open a delivery service and place a user’s usual lunch order.

4. /demoprep

Creates a personalized briefing for upcoming meetings. You can add information after the shortcut, such as the meetings you want to prepare for.

5. /yesterdays-product-performance

Creates a report using performance information from an analytics dashboard. It is designed as an example of a shortcut for recurring business reporting.

How Perplexity Shortcuts Work

Perplexity’s Comet shortcuts are designed to save reusable prompts. Instead of typing the same detailed instructions every time, you can create a shortcut and call it with /.

Typing a shortcut does not immediately execute the task. You can add more information or context before submitting it.

You can also combine multiple shortcuts in a single request. This makes it possible to build more detailed workflows from smaller reusable prompts.

How to Create a Custom Perplexity Shortcut

Perplexity also lets users create their own shortcuts.

To create one, type / in the Comet search bar or sidecar and select Create a shortcut. You can then add your instructions, choose a search mode, select a model and source, and give the shortcut a name.

Once saved, the shortcut can be used like other shortcuts by typing / and selecting it.

How to Edit a Shortcut

Open the Settings area and go to Shortcuts. Select the shortcut you want to change, edit its instructions or settings, and save the changes.

How to Delete a Shortcut

Open your shortcut settings, select the shortcut you want to remove, click the three dot menu, and choose Delete.

Are These Perplexity Commands Available Everywhere?

No. The slash shortcuts documented by Perplexity are a feature of Comet, its browser. They should not be presented as a universal command system for the regular Perplexity web app.

Perplexity’s regular service mainly works through natural language prompts, search modes, file uploads, projects, and other features rather than a fixed list of slash commands.

Perplexity’s shortcut system is different from the command systems found in tools such as Claude Code or Gemini CLI. Instead of providing a long fixed list of developer commands, Comet lets users create reusable shortcuts for tasks they perform regularly.

The officially documented examples include /update-tabs, /fact-check, /order-lunch, /demoprep, and /yesterdays-product-performance. Users can also create their own shortcuts and customize the instructions behind them.
