OpenAI has officially launched ChatGPT Atlas, a new web browser based on Chromium and powered by AI that aims to redefine the internet browsing process. Atlas is also different, offering ChatGPT integrated directly into the browser. This allows users to summarize webpages, analyze information, perform tasks, and receive writing or coding help without switching tabs.
This integration makes AI central to web browsing, enabling research, productivity, and creative workflows to become more efficient and faster. According to OpenAI, the browser is developed to help its users “browse intelligently,” combining both standard tools with the advanced functionality and reasoning power of ChatGPT.
How to Install ChatGPT Atlas on macOS
To get started, users can visit chatgpt.com/atlas and download the .dmg installer. Open the downloaded file, and drag the Atlas app into the Applications folder. Once installed, open the browser and follow the on-screen setup instructions to start using the AI-powered browsing experience.
Currently, ChatGPT Atlas can only run on macOS under any OpenAI plan, Free, Plus, Pro, and Go. Atlas is also available in beta to business users based on their organization’s admin settings. OpenAI has confirmed that Windows, iOS, and Android versions are under development and will be released soon to increase accessibility.
After installation, sign in with your ChatGPT account. Users can import their bookmarks, passwords, and browsing history from other browsers for a smooth transition.
Once set up, you can make Atlas your default browser and start using AI assistance while browsing. It can be used to summarize articles, write emails, or do research. ChatGPT Atlas makes the process faster, more interactive, and more personalized, setting a new standard for how individuals engage with the internet.
