Instagram has added one of the most requested features. Users can now repost public Stories to their Story even if they were not tagged. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the global rollout of a new feature, dubbed Add to Story. It is available on iOS and Android.
The changes are a significant modification major update to the movement of Stories on the platform. Until now, users were required to use a screenshot or screen recording to share something they liked. The new option makes the process simple and clean, and similar to forwarding a Story in a DM, but with a higher quality.
How Add to Story works
When you watch a Story in a public account, you will also see an Add to Story button next to the normal interaction options. By tapping one button, the content gets to your own Story. Instagram automatically adds the original creator handle.
According to Instagram, the design matches how people currently use the app. Stories move fast during events, trends, and campaigns. Instagram can prevent the distortion of images that comes from screenshots. by supporting resharing of images.
Privacy and creator control
Instagram says creators remain in control. Public accounts can turn off the feature in their settings by disabling Allow Sharing to Story. This prevents re-sharing of their Stories by anyone.
Private accounts stay unaffected. Their Stories can only be seen by approved followers and still cannot be reshared publicly.
Personal accounts remain unaffected. Only approved followers can see their Stories, and still cannot be reposted publicly.
A boost for brands and creators
The update is expected to help creators, public figures, and brands grow organically. Followers can now share announcements or creative posts with a single tap. That turns audiences into natural amplifiers.
Reshared Stories keep their full quality. Colours, resolution, and framing stay the same.
