Microsoft has released an emergency out of band update after Windows 11 users reported a serious shutdown problem. On affected systems, PCs would restart instead of properly shutting down or entering hibernation, causing frustration for many users.
The issue mainly hit Windows 11 devices using Secure Launch, a security feature designed to protect systems from firmware level attacks during startup. Alongside this, some Windows 10 and Windows 11 users were locked out of remote access due to credential prompt failures in remote login tools.
The new patch fixes both problems and restores normal shutdown behavior and remote sign in access. Microsoft says users affected by these bugs should install the update as soon as possible.
However, not everything is resolved yet. Reports suggest some issues from the January 2026 security update are still lingering. A number of users are seeing blank screens and crashes in Outlook Classic, adding to concerns about recent Windows updates.
For users not ready to move to Windows 11, Microsoft continues to offer Extended Security Updates for Windows 10. This allows systems to stay protected while delaying a full upgrade.
