How to set up dual monitor display in Windows 11
Here’s how you can easily set up a dual monitor display in Windows 11.
Step 1: Connect your monitors
Connect your monitors before changing any settings.
- Plug the HDMI, DisplayPort, or VGA cable from your second monitor into your PC or laptop.
- Make sure both monitors are powered on.
- Windows 11 will automatically detect the second display after connection.
Otherwise, proceed to the next step to identify it manually.
Step 2: Open display settings
- Right-click anywhere on your desktop.
- Select Display settings from the menu.
- Go to System > Display section.
- You will see both monitors labeled as 1 and 2.
If the second screen is not showing, click Detect.
Step 3: Choose display mode
Windows 11 provides multiple display modes. Here’s what they can do
- Duplicate: Shows the same content on both screens.
- Extend: Expands your workspace across both displays.
- Second screen only: Turns off your main screen and uses only the second monitor.
Select Extend these displays for multitasking.
Step 4: Rearrange displays
You can drag your screens to match their physical layout.
- Drag the monitors (1 and 2) into the correct position.
- Click Apply once you are satisfied.
Step 5: Adjust resolution and scale
To make text and images appear correctly
- Scroll down to the Scale & layout section.
- Choose the right resolution.
- Adjust scaling if icons or text (if they appear too small or large).
Step 6: Set primary display
You can decide which screen will be your primary display
- Select the display you want as your primary.
- Scroll down and check Make this my main display.
Use keyboard shortcuts
Windows 11 has useful shortcuts to switch display modes quickly.
Windows + P: Open the Project menu to change Duplicate, Extend, and Second Screen Only.
