WhatsApp is testing a redesign of its web version that brings Status and Channels in the same place, similar to how the mobile app already shows both in the Updates section.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is building a new Updates tab for the web version. This tab allows individuals to view both the status posts of friends and updates on the channel instead of switching through different screens. The idea is to make the web version feel more like a full app, not just a companion window.
In the new layout, when you open a channel, the web client will display updates on the channel in a focused view. Its design is similar to the layout already used in the WhatsApp app on Mac. Any user of the Mac app will likely feel comfortable on the web.

Both Status and Channels are primarily for viewing, not chatting. They are already shown side by side on phones. Bringing the same layout to the web makes the experience simple and familiar.
WhatsApp’s recent changes suggest that the company wants updates to become more visible and easier to grow, without mixing them into personal chats. A single Updates tab on the web fits that purpose, as it keeps attention to channels while people work on their computers.
According to WABetaInfo, this feature is still under development and is not widely available yet. WhatsApp usually rolls out interface changes slowly, so most users may see it later. If it launches publicly, the web client will likely show a clearer split between chats and updates.

The beta also shows some tweaks to shortcuts. Privacy settings are moved, and a new feature in the plus menu allows users to post their status more quickly.
