If your WhatsApp inbox is a mix of bank alerts, delivery updates, and real conversations, Meta might finally fix that. The company is testing a new “Offers & Updates” folder that automatically pulls messages from large businesses out of the main chat list.
According to TechCrunch and GSM Arena, Meta is testing different time limits before messages are moved, with the longest delay currently set at 24 hours. Users can’t choose their own timing, although the feature can be turned off from settings.
A TechCrunch writer covering the story said they’ve cleared 30 to 40 unread business messages on some mornings, only to find the inbox full again by evening.

The test currently applies only to large businesses on the WhatsApp Business Platform, such as banks, airlines, and major retailers. Small businesses and personal chats aren’t affected.
WhatsApp has made similar changes before. Users could unsubscribe from marketing messages starting in 2024, and the company later limited how many broadcast messages businesses can send, along with how many messages they can send without getting a reply.
Business messaging has become a meaningful part of Meta’s revenue. During its Q2 2026 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said other revenue in the family of apps segment crossed $1 billion, driven mainly by WhatsApp subscriptions and paid messaging. WhatsApp’s AI business agents, rolled out globally in June, are now used by more than 1 million businesses.
Meta has not announced a release date for the feature. It remains limited to selected businesses using the WhatsApp Business Platform, while personal chats and small businesses stay unaffected for now.
