Google has announced a new transparency tool that will help individuals identify ads produced or modified using artificial intelligence. The update is rolling out to Google Search, YouTube, and Discover, providing users with more information about ads that appear in their daily experiences.
The new feature adds a new section called “How this ad was made” inside My Ad Center. When a user clicks to view the info menu for an ad that they have seen, they can see whether AI created or edited the content.
More transparency for AI-generated ads

Google says that ads made using its own AI tools will be automatically labelled. Advertisers using a third-party AI tool will also be able to disclose when AI was used to produce or modify images and videos. The change is created to improve transparency as AI-generated content becomes more common online.
The company added that these labels will be rolled out slowly across its advertising products in July. Users may also see AI disclosures directly on ads in some regions, where local rules require them.
The update does not change Google’s ranking or advertising practices. Instead, it provides more context about how an ad was generated, making it easier to understand whether artificial intelligence was involved.
For businesses and advertisers, the new system provides a standardized way to meet growing AI transparency requirements in different markets while helping build trust with customers.
AI tools are now widely used to create advertising images, videos and marketing content in minutes. As their use continues to grow, technology companies are introducing more transparency on what users are interacting with on the Internet. Google’s latest update is a sign of that trend toward transparency in digital advertising.
