Apple has confirmed the release of its much-anticipated sequel to the original Apple Watch Ultra. The news was confirmed by Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known insider in the Apple community, who released a report substantiating previous rumors about the tech giant’s plans.
According to Kuo’s report, the new wearable device is expected to hit the market in the latter half of this year. It could potentially be unveiled alongside the new iPhones in September or at a separate event in October.
What sets this upcoming Apple Watch Ultra sequel apart is the integration of 3D-printed parts into its design. This move signifies Apple’s active adoption of 3D printing technology, which will be used to manufacture some of the titanium mechanical parts of the device.
While traditional CNC processes will still be employed for certain components, the incorporation of 3D printing into the production process is expected to significantly cut down on production times and costs.
Kuo’s report also disclosed that Apple has entered into partnerships with 3D printer suppliers Farsoon and BLT. Additionally, IPG Photonics has been chosen as the exclusive supplier of the laser components necessary for the 3D printing process.
The successful integration of 3D printing into the production of the Apple Watch Ultra sequel could pave the way for Apple to expand its use of this technology in the manufacturing of other products in the future. This innovative approach could potentially revolutionize the production process within the tech industry.
