WhatsApp is testing a major upgrade for its web version that would allow users to make voice and video calls directly from their browser. This feature is still under development, but the beta version shows that WhatsApp is working to bring full calling support to group chats on the web.
Currently, voice and video calls are only available to the mobile app and desktop clients, but the next update will close the gap. After release, users can start group calls directly from WhatsApp Web without needing to install the desktop client or change their device.
According to WABetaInfo, the web calling tools will be similar to mobile, where anyone can participate in a group call. Early reports suggest support for up to 32 participants, but initial rollouts may have smaller limits to ensure stability.

The update can also add the feature to create call links in a group chat, similar to what is already available on Android and iOS. These links would let users invite others to make voice or video calls with a single tap.
WhatsApp is also exploring scheduled calls, where users can set a name, description, and start time of a future call. This helps groups to schedule meetings in advance, but the calls will not start automatically.
While WhatsApp has not announced an official launch date, the development process suggests that the feature may be launched in the upcoming web update soon.
