WhatsApp is rolling out new group chat features that will make group chats more organized, expressive, and easier to follow. New features include member tags, text-based stickers, and smarter event reminders, showing the company’s aim to enhance the coordination of busy groups.
Member tags allow users to assign themselves a custom label in each group. For example, someone could appear as “John’s Dad” in a family chat and “Marketing Head” in a work group.
These labels can be fully customized for each group. The feature is rolling out gradually worldwide, so availability may vary depending on your region.
Text stickers allow users to make any typed word into a sticker using the Sticker Search bar. Once created, they can be shared directly in chats or in sticker packs.
The feature will let users express themselves creatively without images or emojis.
Event reminders in groups have also been updated. Users can now customize early notification of invitees when creating and sharing events.
This makes group members not forget important details, such as when to leave for a party or join a scheduled call on time.
The new features are add-ons to WhatsApp’s existing features, including event creation with RSVPs, pinning, file sharing up to 2GB, HD media, screen sharing, and voice chats.
In the future, WhatsApp plans more updates in 2026, including usernames, a built-in chat-clearing feature, account security, and a new @all mention feature for groups.
