As the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto approaches on December 27th, many are wondering whether the day will be declared a public holiday or not.
Last year, the PPP-led Sindh government announced December 27th as a public holiday to mark the 15th death anniversary of the former PM. However, with the current caretaker government in place, it remains to be seen if a similar notification will be issued this year as well.
The caretaker government has already declared December 25th a public holiday on the occasion of Quaid-e-Azam Day and Christmas. It announced that all government offices except those providing essential services will remain closed.
There has been no official confirmation yet on whether December 27th will be a public holiday. The federal government and provincial governments are expected to issue a notification soon in this regard if they decide to declare it a public holiday.
The Pakistan Peoples Party has previously pushed for December 27th to be marked as a day of remembrance for Benazir Bhutto. If declared a public holiday, it would allow PPP supporters and workers to gather for commemorative events on this day.
However, the final decision rests with the caretaker government led by technocrats. Stay tuned for any official updates from the government on this matter.
