Music streaming giant Spotify is quietly testing a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to generate personalized playlists based on text prompts. The feature allows selected testers to create AI-powered playlists under the “Your Library” section.
When enabled, users can type in textual prompts and descriptions of their desired playlist. Spotify’s AI assistant then suggests relevant tracks to match the prompt.
This experiment indicates Spotify is keen on leveraging AI to improve music recommendations and playlist creation.
As the feature is still in early testing, details remain scarce. It is unclear if or when the capability might roll out more widely.
The test follows Spotify’s acquisition of AI startup Sonantic last year, signaling an interest in using AI for various applications.
AI-generated playlists could allow the service to better cater to listeners’ tastes and moods. However, ethical concerns around AI creativity and automation are likely to attract scrutiny as the technology evolves. For now, Spotify remains tight-lipped about the pilot and its plans.
