Many players who decided to install the Fabric mod loader and would like to try some mods at least once should start with Sodium. It is unofficial for the Minecraft client, which makes it run faster in high definition. Let’s describe how you can download and install Sodium in Minecraft – and then you can do the same thing with Iris Shaders.
How to Download & Install Sodium for Minecraft
Follow the steps below to download Sodium on your PC:
- Go to the download page for sodium on CurseForge or Modrinth.
- Click Files and/or Versions on the bottom and look for the file corresponding to your Minecraft version. It must also be compatible with the fabric loader for the same version.
- Save the file, and you can find it in the download folder.
If you have not installed Fabric in Minecraft, you first need to read our separate tutorial on how to do it. Next, let’s go over how you can install Sodium in Minecraft:
- Open the main .minecraft folder in the AppData folder. I hope you were able to successfully install the Forge Mod. If not, kindly keep retrying until you do. You can easily find it by typing the following in the Windows Run app: ‘%appdata%/’ Minecraft.
- Now, you are to ensure that there is a folder with the name “mods” or create one if not, and then open it.
- Place the Sodium file in the mods folder, and you are done installing it. Some of the mods also depend on the Fabric API mod to function, so do not forget to download it.
Minecraft: How to Use Sodium
To use Sodium, you need to launch Minecraft with Fabric. Open the Minecraft Launcher, select Fabric under Versions on the left side of the window, and click on Play to launch the game. Then, leap into the world and experience a different environment.
Fabric loader offers no “Mods” section to check whether a particular mod arrived or not, while, at the same time, it is way easier to understand if Sodium is running. You can press a button that effectively pauses the game and brings you to the Video Settings. Although they will look different than the vanilla game, Sodium is active, as it has a custom UI for this section. You can now also find out how to install Iris Shaders on Minecraft.
With that, you have now installed Sodium, one of the more widely used Fabric mods for Minecraft, and can experience the feel that Iris offers at high frames.
