Punjab Excise Department Introduces Virtual Smart Cards for Vehicle Registration

Punjab Excise Department has announced the launch of virtual smart cards. This innovative approach is set to revolutionize the registration process for vehicle owners across the province.

The department acknowledged the inconvenience caused by delays of up to a month for citizens awaiting their vehicle registration cards. The holdup was attributed to the tendering process, but the authorities have been proactive in looking for solutions.

With the introduction of virtual smart cards, the department aims to expedite the registration process and provide a more efficient service to the public.

Before this digital initiative can be fully implemented, the provincial excise department requires the green light from the provincial government.

A summary has already been sent to the government for approval. Once sanctioned, the virtual smart cards will become available to citizens throughout Punjab.

Vehicle owners will be able to obtain their virtual smart cards online, eliminating the need for physical documentation.

After completing the necessary registration steps, the cards can be downloaded directly from the Excise Department’s website, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience.

Complementing the virtual smart cards, the department has also initiated a doorstep service for vehicle registration.

By dialing the Punjab Information Technology Board’s helpline, car and bike owners can request a representative to visit their home and complete the registration process on-site, further simplifying the procedure for the residents of Punjab
