NHMP Announces for Vehicles Using M-TAG Lane Without M-TAG

The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) has issued a large fine for cars that utilize an M-TAG lane without having an M-TAG.

According to the specifications, a new fine will be applied from today (5 June 2023) to ensure that cars lacking M-TAG do not utilize the M-TAG lane, causing a blockage or causing a nuisance to other drivers.

The decision was made to make M-TAG users’ journeys more pleasant by reducing congestion and delays caused by non-M-TAG cars utilizing the dedicated M-TAG lanes at toll plazas around the nation.

The increased penalties for non-M-TAG users are based on Article 48 of the National Highways Safety Ordinance 2000, which states that vehicle owners who join an M-TAG lane without a registered M-TAG shall face legal action.
