Punjab government has taken an important step towards reducing environmental pollution by officially launching electric rickshaws in the province. As per reports, the provincial authorities have collaborated with a private company to introduce these zero-emission vehicles.
The electric rickshaws are being touted as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional auto rickshaws that run on gasoline engines. Unlike their fossil fuel-powered counterparts, the newly launched e-rickshaws do not directly emit any greenhouse gases or air pollutants.
According to claims made by officials, a single charge can allow these electric three-wheelers to cover up to 150 kilometers. However, further details regarding pricing and availability are yet to be disclosed.
This development comes on the heels of recent amendments made to the Motor Vehicles Rules 1969. These changes grant Qingqi rickshaws legal recognition, allowing them to be officially registered under the three-wheeler category.
The launch of electric variants is being seen as an extension of these efforts to formalize this important mode of transportation.
