Google has also announced a major update to Google Drive, where it plans to make searching for files in folders quicker and more user-friendly, but there’s a catch. The new feature is available for a paid Google Workspace plan or a Gemini Plus/Pro subscription.
This week, Google announced a list of upcoming Drive updates focused on Gemini AI integration. The biggest upgrade is Gemini-powered folder previews, allowing users to instantly see what is in a folder without opening each file separately.
According to Google, Gemini will now provide active insight about the files in a given folder, right at the top of the folder view. This means that you will get a summary of important content the moment you click into a folder.
For users who want more detail, Google added an “Explore with Gemini” option. With one tap, you can generate a full summary or ask follow-up questions using the Gemini side panel.

However, as highlighted by Android Authority, the feature will not be available for everyone. The AI-powered folder previews are limited to
- Paid Google Workspace accounts
- Gemini Plus subscribers
- Gemini Pro subscribers
While, its a useful upgrade, but free Google Drive users will not have access unless they subscribe to a paid plan.
