Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Twitter, has created xAI, a new artificial intelligence business comprised of engineers from major technology organizations, as the billionaire enters the AI field to fight with competitor ChatGPT.
The chief engineer of SpaceX has been involved with AI in prior initiatives such as Tesla, but he has now established a new website to learn about “the true nature of the universe.”
The 52-year-old explained that he chose July 12, 2023, as the date for the xAI announcement because it is associated with a science fiction classic, Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Musk stated that 7-12-23 equals 42, which the novel argues is the “answer to life.”
Twitter CEO previously hinted at creating a safer AI world by enlisting a maximally interested AI that aspires to comprehend the actual essence of the cosmos.
The computer guru claimed that his AI journey was inspired by the end-of-the-world concerns associated with superintelligence, which he believes will materialize in the next years.
Meanwhile, some have criticized his involvement in the AI field. In a previous interview, he outlined his aspirations for his new AI endeavor, TruthGPT, but he now arrives with a different moniker.
Musk paid $44 billion for Twitter last year and now has a major competitor in the form of Meta’s Threads, a comparable microblogging platform. In little than a week, the app attracted over 100 million users.
