The Sindh Government has announced a ban on pillion riding on motorcycles for two days during the upcoming week. The prohibition will be in effect on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, which falls on Friday, July 28, and Saturday, July 29. The Sindh Home Department has issued an official notification regarding this ban, which applies to all districts within the province.
The ban stipulates that motorcycles cannot carry passengers during the specified dates. However, certain groups are exempted from this restriction. Women, children, disabled individuals, and senior citizens will not be affected by the ban and can continue to ride as passengers on motorcycles.
In addition to the pillion-riding ban, the provincial government has also suspended all permits for carrying weapons within the province. The provincial interior department further clarified that all forms of meetings and processions are banned, with the exception of gatherings related to Muharram.
Furthermore, the government has imposed a ban on motorcycle entry into Islamabad’s red zone until the 12th of Muharram, Monday, July 31. This information was relayed through an official tweet from the Islamabad Capital Territory Police (ICTP). To facilitate movement within the red zone, a shuttle service has been introduced from three points: Serena Chowk, Parade Avenue, and Marriott Chowk. Authorities have advised residents and visitors to refrain from bringing motorcycles into the red zone area during this period.
These measures are part of the government’s efforts to maintain peace and order during the observance of Muharram, a significant period in the Islamic calendar.
