Shopify Unveils First AI Commerce Assistant, Sidekick

Shopify has launched its first AI-enabled commerce assistant, Sidekick. This innovative tool was introduced as part of over 100 enhancements unveiled during Shopify’s biannual event, the Summer ’23 Edition.

Sidekick is an AI-powered assistant designed to provide comprehensive support to entrepreneurs using Shopify. It enables business owners, regardless of their experience level, to streamline their processes, boost efficiency, and gain valuable insights for informed decision-making. The AI assistant can perform tasks such as setting up discounts, redesigning stores, identifying best-selling products, and guiding users through tutorials on email campaigns.

The introduction of Sidekick marks a new era in commerce, offering unprecedented opportunities for entrepreneurs and enterprises. As Tobi Lütke, founder and CEO of Shopify, stated, the integration of AI into e-commerce will be a significant boon to entrepreneurship, potentially revolutionizing the way businesses operate.

Shopify’s Summer ’23 Edition also saw the unveiling of nine new features under Shopify Magic, a suite of AI-enabled tools integrated across the platform. These features include personalized FAQ and response recommendations, instantly generated blog posts and emails, and more. By integrating AI into its backend, Shopify aims to keep businesses at the cutting edge of technology and help them thrive in today’s competitive market.

One business that has already benefited from Shopify Magic is Glitch Anomaly, a UK-based lifestyle brand specializing in sustainable menswear. Kwame Chambers, the CEO and co-founder, uses the tool to craft product descriptions with relevant keywords for better SEO optimization and precise product information.

In addition to Sidekick and Shopify Magic, the company also announced the launch of Marketplace Connect, a single app that allows merchants to sell on all major marketplaces like Amazon, eBay, and Walmart directly from within Shopify. This all-in-one solution aims to streamline business operations and reach millions of new customers.

Shopify also introduced Shopify Credit, a zero-fee business credit card with up to 3% cash back, and Shopify Collective, which allows merchants to cross-sell from their own storefronts. Both these features are currently available to Shopify merchants in the US.

With these advancements, Shopify continues to redefine the landscape of e-commerce, leveraging the power of AI to empower entrepreneurs and transform customer shopping experiences.
