Honda Takes Leap into Pakistan’s EV Market with Launch of BENLY e

Honda has introduced its electric scooter, the BENLY e. This strategic unveiling took place during a ‘soft’ launch event at Honda’s Sheikhupura factory on November 29th, 2023, signaling the company’s foray into the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) market of the country.

The BENLY e represents Honda’s commitment to understanding the unique needs and challenges of Pakistani customers as it navigates the electric market landscape.

According to Noriaki Abe, the Chief Officer of Motorcycle and Power Products at Atlas Honda, the e-bike will initially be available for test marketing purposes only. This phase is crucial for Honda to gauge the response of potential corporate clients, such as food delivery services and courier companies, which are expected to form the bulk of the initial customer base due to their large fleets.

Despite the excitement surrounding the launch, individual consumers will need to exercise patience. A dealer from Karachi revealed that it might take up to a year before the e-bike becomes accessible to the general public. However, this has not dampened the enthusiasm of potential buyers, as dealerships are already receiving numerous inquiries about the electric bike.

The Chairman of the Association of Pakistan Motorcycle Assemblers (APMA), Sabir Sheikh, provided insights into the pricing strategy for the BENLY e. He anticipates that the price tag will hover around Rs. 900,000, a figure that positions Honda’s offering above its Chinese competitors in the local market.

Despite the higher cost, Sheikh advises consumers to opt for motorcycles from manufacturers with local production facilities to ensure reliable after-sales support.

As the EV market in Pakistan continues to expand, the introduction of the BENLY e by Honda is a testament to the growing interest in sustainable transportation solutions. While the initial focus is on commercial sales, the public’s keen interest suggests a promising future for electric scooters in the country.

With predictions of a substantial increase in locally manufactured e-bikes by June of the following year, Honda’s BENLY e is poised to become a pivotal player in Pakistan’s green mobility revolution.
