Riyadh: Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, represented Pakistan at the Future Minerals Forum (FMF) in Riyadh where he participated in high-level discussions showcasing Pakistan’s immense mineral potential to the world.
Federal Minister was conducting a string of bilateral meetings of a high level on the sidelines of FMF. These were a meeting with the HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman Al-Saud, Minister of energy of Saudi Arabia, where both parties were deliberating on the means to enhance bilateral collaboration in the energy sector; petroleum supply, renewable energy, energy efficiency, investment opportunities.
Ali Pervaiz Malik also met with Engr. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Investment of Saudi Arabia and discussed how to encourage the investment flows and partnership in Pakistan in the fields of energy and minerals. He also had meetings with Mr. Jassim Alshirawi, International Energy Forum Secretary General, Mr. Sami Takaluoma, CEO, Metso Corporation, the Chairman of Delta oil, Mr. Badr Al-Aiban, Eng. Saad Alkhalb, CEO, Saudi EXIM Bank.During these meetings, the need to cooperate with one another was discussed.
The Federal Minister participated in one of the high-profile ministerial panels known as the Dough of a Global Cause: The Role of Governments in Driving Mineral Supply, hosted by Ms. Eleni Giokos, CNN Anchor and Correspondent. The panel included such notable speakers as Mr. Bandar Alkhorayef, Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Ms. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Morocco; Mr. Thiam Tidjani, Minister of Mines and Industry, Mauritania; Ms. Aurora Williams Baussa, Mining Minister, Chile and Mr. Claude Guay, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, Canada.
In the discussion, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik pointed out that the Government of Pakistan is in the process of de-frictifying its system and aligning the mineral sector framework by simplifying the regulatory environment. He was keen to reiterate that Pakistan is richly endowed with numerous mineral potential, which is very promising in terms of global partnerships. In Pakistan, the panel realized the increasing popularity of the country, seen as an emerging and appealing mineral destination. Ms. Eleni Giokos said, with all the potential that Pakistan has the world seems to be knocking on Pakistan door to be able to acquire minerals as the world seems to be becoming more and more interested.
The Federal Minister officially called on the international stakeholders to attend the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, to be held in April 2026, making it an investment, collaboration center, and policy deliberation venue.
Further, the Federal Minister was present during the FMF Ministerial Roundtable called Dawn of a Global Cause: Minerals for a New Era of Development that saw the involvement of the representatives of 100 governments.
Their attendance at FMF was also enhanced with the Pakistan Pavilion which was dubbed Pakistan -The Mineral Marvel. The pavilion also had live performances of the National Minerals Data Center (NMDC) which is a state of the art digital platform that is at the heart of the modernization of the mineral sector in Pakistan. Tourists interacted with interactive displays that were of high standards such as 3D geological modeling, high-resolution GIS mapping, and real-time data display of the mineral-rich belts of Pakistan.
Pakistan also presented a 90 minutes country showcase session on their mineral resources and also this attracted a full house. At the session, the Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik unveiled the strategic vision of Pakistan in regards to critical minerals and affirmed that Pakistan is open to business and that the Government of Pakistan was fully in support of its operators in order to tap into the potential opportunity to aid the global shift towards electrification. He pointed out that Reko Diq is not the end but the beginning that will offer new standards of mining, and that the theme of the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum this year is going to be Beyond Reko Diq. Mr. Abdulrahman Al-Belushi, who was present in this session, was the General Manager and Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources.
The presence of Pakistan in the Future Minerals forum confirmed that the government takes the responsibility of responsible mineral exploitation, international cooperation and growth through investment, which has positioned the country as a key partner in fulfilling future mineral needs across the world.
