An unidentified individual threw a water bottle at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman and former premier Imran Khan as he was entering a court in Islamabad. The incident was captured on video and shared by the PTI on its official Twitter account, criticizing the government for the inadequate security arrangements at the court.
The video footage shows Khan stepping out of his vehicle and making his way toward the court when the bottle is thrown from the roof of the court building. Fortunately, Khan was unharmed as his private security team shielded him from the projectile.
The PTI chief was present at the court to attend a hearing of the Toshakhana case filed against him by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The case pertains to Khan’s failure to declare gifts he retained from the state depository.
This unsettling event occurred amidst escalating political tension between the ruling parties and the PTI, led by Khan, as the general elections approached. The current National Assembly’s tenure is due to end on August 12, adding to the heightened political climate.
The incident has raised serious concerns about the security measures in place for political figures, particularly in light of the upcoming elections. The PTI’s public criticism of the government’s handling of security arrangements at the court underscores the party’s growing dissatisfaction with the current administration.
