The coalition government led by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) is poised to revive the youth laptop scheme for college and university students. The initiative, set to be reinstated tomorrow, aims to equip the nation’s young minds with the necessary tools to excel in their academic pursuits.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will personally distribute the laptops to the students at a ceremony scheduled to take place at the Convention Centre in Islamabad. The event, which will commence at 10:00 pm, is expected to be attended by a host of students and officials. This gesture underscores the government’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to learning and innovation.
The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme took to Twitter to announce the restoration of the laptop scheme. The tweet, written in Urdu, expressed the determination and resilience that went into bringing back the initiative despite numerous challenges.
However, not all students are eligible for this scheme. The eligibility criteria stipulate that students must possess a valid CNIC or B-Form number and must be enrolled as valid students as of the closing date for application submission. The scheme is open to students enrolled in Ph.D., MS, MPhil, or equivalent 18-year programs, 4-year or 5-year bachelor’s degree programs, and MBA programs of varying durations (3.5 years, 2.5 years, and 1.5 years).
The revival of the PM laptop scheme is a significant step towards empowering the youth and promoting digital literacy. By providing students with laptops, the government is not only facilitating their academic journey but also preparing them for a future where digital skills will be paramount.
