In a heartwarming tribute to Pakistan’s Independence Day, Google has unveiled a special doodle artwork. The doodle showcases the Indus river dolphin, a toothed whale species endemic to Pakistan and known as the bhulan in Urdu and Sindhi. This endangered species is a rare sight along the coasts of Pakistan, making its appearance in the doodle even more significant.
Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day with fervor and patriotic enthusiasm. Google acknowledged the historical significance of this day. It stated, “On this day in 1947, Pakistan gained its independence and became a sovereign nation after almost 200 years of British occupancy.”
The note further highlighted the Indian Independence Act of 1947, which led to the creation of Pakistan. Muslim Indians, desiring their own independent nation-state, initiated the Pakistan Movement. This movement was led by the All-India Muslim League under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Across the country, Pakistani citizens proudly wave their national flag and sing the national anthem. The main celebrations take place in Islamabad, where the president and prime minister deliver inspiring speeches about national heroes, recent accomplishments, and future aspirations.
Key government buildings such as the Parliament House, Supreme Court, and President’s House, among others, are adorned with bright lights and colors. The public also enjoys fireworks displays, rallies, and musical concerts as part of the festivities. Google’s special doodle adds to the joyous spirit of the day, reminding everyone of the unique biodiversity that Pakistan is home to.
