Sindh Govt Declares Public Holiday to Honor Urs of Sufi Saint Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai

The provincial government of Sindh has announced that Friday, 1st September 2023, will be observed as a public holiday. This declaration is in honor of the Urs of the esteemed Sufi saint, poet, and scholar, Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.

As per the official notification, this public holiday will apply to all offices, autonomous and semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the administrative control of the Sindh Government. However, essential services are exempted from this directive.

Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai holds a revered place in the hearts of many for his profound contributions to Sufi literature and philosophy. His Urs is marked by thousands of devotees who gather at his shrine in Bhit Shah, Sindh. The commemoration includes recitations of his poetry, musical renditions of his kalam (writings), and various other religious and cultural activities.

In related news, the Sindh Health Department has implemented a ban on smoking, gutka, and Manipuri in all public sector offices and hospitals across the province. This move is part of an initiative to promote healthier environments. The announcement was made by Sindh’s Caretaker Health Minister, Dr. Saad Khalid Niaz.

Dr. Irshad Memon, the Director General of Health Services Sindh, has been entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring strict enforcement of the ban. Written instructions have been issued to all Directors and Medical Superintendents of major hospitals and medical institutes, urging them to execute the ban effectively.
