The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted that monsoon currents from the Bay of Bengal will continue to infiltrate the country. A westerly trough is also impacting the upper regions of the nation and is expected to persist over the next few days.
The PMD has warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from 22nd to 26th July due to heavy rains. These weather conditions may also trigger landslides in susceptible areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period.
Flash flooding is a concern in areas like Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbottabad, Rawalpindi/Islamabad from 22nd to 26th July. The hill torrent of Dera Ghazi Khan and adjoining areas of northeast Balochistan are also at risk on 22nd and 23rd July. Karachi and Hyderabad’s low-lying areas may experience water logging due to heavy rains from 22nd to 24th July.
Farmers have been advised to plan their activities according to the weather forecast. Tourists and travelers are also urged to exercise extra caution to avoid any adverse situations during this wet spell.
Rain and wind-thundershowers, with isolated heavy falls, are also anticipated in various parts of the country from 22nd to 24th July. These include Zhob, Sherani, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kohlu, Naseerabad, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Ziarat, Mastung, Kalat, Khuzdar, Lasbella, Awaran, Kech, Panjgur, Dera Ghazi khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Khanewal, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi.
Furthermore, heavy to very heavy falls are expected in several regions including Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Kasur, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khusab, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalnagar, Okara, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Karak, and Waziristan from 22nd to 26th July.
The general public is advised to stay in safe places during wind-storms and heavy rains as these conditions may damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. All relevant authorities have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautionary measures during the forecast period.
