The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee of Pakistan has announced that the Muharram crescent was not sighted on the expected day. Youm-e-Ashur which is observed on the 10th of Muharram will be commemorated on Saturday, July 29, throughout the nation.
Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar holds profound historical and religious importance for Muslims globally. The commencement of the Hijri year 1445 will be marked on this day, signifying a significant milestone in the Islamic calendar.
This period is characterized by a sense of solemnity as Muslims worldwide remember the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the cherished grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who made the ultimate sacrifice at the Battle of Karbala.
In light of these observances, the government is expected to declare two public holidays on July 28 and 29, coinciding with the 9th and 10th of Muharram. This decision will enable devotees to participate in religious activities and processions across the country.
The announcement regarding the moon sighting was made during a pivotal meeting chaired by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman, Maulana Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad, in Quetta. The meeting was attended by esteemed members of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, representatives from the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Department of Meteorology, SUPARCO, and officials from the Ministry of Science and Technology.
In tandem with this, provincial and district moon sighting committees also convened at their respective headquarters to confirm the sighting of the Muharram crescent. This collective effort ensures the accurate determination of the Islamic calendar and the appropriate observance of significant religious events.
