Former cricketer Mohammad Hafeez has been appointed as the new Chief Selector of the national team. This decision was announced by the PCB Management Committee, following the conclusion of the ongoing two-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
The news of Hafeez’s appointment comes after Zaka Ashraf, the newly appointed interim Chairman of the PCB, extended an offer to him earlier this month. Ashraf held a crucial meeting with Hafeez to discuss the possibility of him assuming the role of Chief Selector. However, Hafeez initially did not accept the offer, citing existing commitments, and requested some time to consider it.
The appointment of Hafeez is part of a broader reshuffle within the PCB. Other notable cricketers such as Younis Khan, Mohsin Khan, Saleem Yousuf, and Shoaib Akhtar were also rumored to be considered for various positions within the board.
This move comes after the federal government officially appointed Ashraf as the chairman of the newly formed management committee earlier this month. The 10-member committee has been granted a four-month term to oversee the affairs of the PCB.
Hafeez’s appointment marks a new chapter in the administration of Pakistan cricket. His vast experience and knowledge of the game are expected to bring fresh perspectives and strategies to the selection process of the national team.
