Babar Azam Retains on Top in Latest ODI Rankings

Pakistan’s cricket captain Babar Azam has successfully maintained his number-one position in the ICC ODI Rankings. The rankings show Azam leading with a total of 836 rating points, extending his lead to 18 points.

Azam’s consistent performance has solidified his standing at the top of the ODI batting rankings. His closest competitor, India’s young talent Shubman Gill, remains in second place despite a strong start to his Cricket World Cup campaign, scoring 12 runs against Pakistan after recovering from an illness.

The latest ICC update also highlights significant movements within the Men’s ODI Player Rankings. New Zealand’s Trent Boult is closing in on the top spot in the ODI Bowling Rankings following an impressive performance against Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Quinton de Kock and India’s Rohit Sharma have both made strides towards the top of the ODI batting rankings, thanks to their exceptional performances in the ongoing World Cup 2023.

De Kock, who started the tournament with consecutive centuries, missed a chance to climb closer to the top spot when he was dismissed for 20, triggering a significant collapse in South Africa’s batting against the Netherlands.

Despite this setback, he has risen three spots to third in the ODI batting rankings, overtaking his teammate Rassie van der Dussen who now sits in fourth place.

Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz has made a significant leap, moving up 19 spots to 18th in the rankings.

As the World Cup 2023 continues, these rankings are expected to see more fluctuations as players strive to outperform each other on the global stage.
