- Microsoft adds AI assistant to Windows Settings app for easier navigation
- Works through the search bar using natural language
- Only available on Copilot+ PCs for now
Microsoft is enhancing the Settings app using generative AI and a new built-in agent that will assist users in finding and configuring settings with less time.
Currently, the Settings app cannot be explored without the knowledge of what you want to find. Although there is a search bar, users need to remember the names of settings. While experienced user might handle it easily but other people can be confused by the interface.
Microsoft is introducing an AI assistant directly within the Settings search bar. It is not a chatbot like Copilot but an embedded smart tool, enabling its users to describe issues using natural language. Then the most relevant settings will be proposed by the AI, and in some cases even automatically configured.
This will not be the first time Microsoft tries AI in settings. They had tried Copilot suggestions earlier, that feature was abandoned.
How to Use the Settings AI Agent
To try the new AI assistant, you must have a Copilot+ PC. Open the Settings app and type some words to explain the problem or tell what it is you want to get, such as “enable voice access” or “turn off notifications”.
The AI agent will show real-time suggestions to you as you type. It will also display an Apply button; press this button to enable the setting with a single click.
Though helpful, the feature is still in development. Some queries may not return accurate suggestions, and the AI can occasionally struggle with simple tasks. Even so, it marks a major step toward smarter, more user-friendly Windows settings.
The feature is in its development phase yet it has been helpful. Not all queries can receive correct suggestions and AI can at times be incompetent at basic tasks.
