Apple’s iOS 26 will now pause FaceTime calls if someone is undressing

Summary
  • iOS 26 adds a new FaceTime feature that pauses video when someone is undressing.
  • A warning message lets users resume or end the call.
  • Initially part of Apple’s child safety tools, now expanded to all users.
  • Available now in the iOS 26 developer beta, public beta coming soon.

Whether you face always-on video meetings or work remotely, there is a story that we can all tolerate but that can easily come true: accidentally showing something inappropriate on video.

Not only the annoying background but also an unfortunate wardrobe mishap, FaceTime users now have a potent ally in stopping embarrassment.

With the upcoming iOS 26 update, Apple has added a personal FaceTime setting that puts your feed on pause when it sees any nudity. Intelligent detection is one of the ways Apple continues to focus on privacy, safety, and digital well-being, particularly in live communication contexts.

IDeviceHelp noticed the feature and later reported it by 9to5Mac, involves AI-based detection of sensitive content in real-time during a FaceTime call. If inappropriate material or nudity is observed, the video feed is automatically paused.

Here’s what happens when the system is triggered:

  • A message appears on your screen saying:
“Audio and video are paused because you may be showing something sensitive. If you feel uncomfortable, you should end the call.”
  • There are two options you have:
    • Resume Audio and Video
    • End Call

It means that users are kept in complete control and receive a privacy-forward alert when something potentially embarrassing occurs.

The feature builds on Apple’s existing Communication Safety toolkit and was initially intended for child accounts. Apple announced last month that the Communication Safety feature will step in when a FaceTime video chat is nude and blur explicit material in shared pictures.

However, the surprising part is that this option has been applied to all users, not just those belonging to minors or children, so this decision may also be considered an initiative by Apple to make communication tools safer and more rational.

Is the feature available now?

Nudity detection is available within the live iOS 26 developer beta. Although it has not yet been officially confirmed whether Apple is in its final rollout status, it will likely be part of the next iOS 26 public beta and is expected to be released in July 2025.
