- Meta has launched a video editing app called Edits via Instagram.
- Edits includes creative tools, watermark-free exports, and draft sharing.
- The app will be available for preorder on iOS, launching next month.
As TikTok battles to avoid a nationwide ban in the U.S., its sibling apps like CapCut also started to vanish from app stores over the weekend. This left a gap that was filled by competitors to fill. Meta quickly took every opportunity to unveil Edits, a dedicated video editing app that will be available to creators.
In a post, Instagram head Adam Mosseri called Edits “a full suite of creative tools”. The app goes beyond basic editing by offering features tailored to creators:
- A tab dedicated to creative inspirations.
- Chance to collaborate with friends or colleagues while sharing video drafts.
- Upload direct 1080p video to Instagram AND get analytics.
Launched free, videos will be able to be exported without watermarks, a major win for existing apps. However, its combination of these features and user-friendly tools makes Edits a big player in CapCut’s field.
Meta has confirmed an Android app will come later, and while the app is set to launch for iOS users next month. You can currently preorder Edits via the Apple App Store.

The move by Meta seems strategic, given they are unsure of what will happen with ByteDance’s apps. So Edits was not built overnight, but this was a good time to exploit the gap.
This release also highlights Meta’s dedication to offering creators a diverse, easy-to-use toolkit; we also point out that your manifesto has multiple forms: new levels of artistry and collaboration.
When it launches, would you use Edits? What do you have to share in the comments?
