AI Chatbots are becoming a necessary ingredient in our everyday web browsing lives, and Google is taking things to the next level. The tech giant has officially made its Gemini AI platform directly into Google Chrome, and some of its users can now access Gemini on any browser page.
Until now, Gemini AI has only been available via its dedicated page or mobile and desktop app. The update allows users to be able to summarize the content of a page, translate large portions of text, and perform various AI-powered tasks without changing tabs.
However, there is a twist, the feature is only available to Google AI Pro users ($20/month) and Google AI Ultra ($250/month), and is only available in the U.S.
How to enable Gemini in Chrome
To get started, you should be subscribed to either Google AI Pro or AI Ultra and be running the latest version of Chrome. You can check this by clicking three-dot menu > Help > About Google Chrome. Any updates available would be installed automatically.
Now, go to Settings, then AI Innovations, and choose the permissions you want to grant Gemini. Open a new Chrome tab and look for star icon next to the address bar. Click on it and sign in to Gemini with Chrome.
After enabling it, you can interact with Gemini in two different ways.
- Click the star icon to open the floating chatbot window
- Type @Gemini in the address bar and press Space or Tab, then enter your query
How to use Gemini in Chrome
You can perform many tasks in Gemini in Chrome.
- Select a section or complete article, then right-click and choose “Summarize” or “Explain.”
- Select text in another language and allow Gemini to do instant translation.
- Gemini can compare two products on sites like Amazon or Best Buy, such as two products, price, specs, or picture quality.
- You can speak with Gemini directly using the Go Live option and view a complete transcript of your conversation.
Using these tools, browsing can be made faster, smarter, and it can be much more interactive, without even changing your page.
