How to Customize Always-on-Display in iPhone 14 Pro

With the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, Apple has finally brought its own implementation of an always-on display to iPhone users. However, Apple’s idea of what an AoD iPhone should be has drawn a lot of criticism.

Well, with iOS 16.2 – which enabled 5G on iPhones in India, iPhone 14 Pro owners can finally customize their always-on display (to some extent). Whether it’s the dim wallpaper that annoys you or the fact that the AOD makes your iPhone look like your iPhone is never really in sleep mode, here’s how to customize the always-on display on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Customize the always-on-display iPhone

Like Apple, there aren’t a ton of options for customizing the iPhone 14 Pro’s AOD. However, the basics are there and you can get a permanently usable display on your iPhone that doesn’t affect battery life too much. There are a few things you can change in the always-on-screen iPhone 14 Pro, and we’re going to look at both of them.

Note: You will need to update your iPhone to iOS 16.2 in order for the AOD customization options to show up.

Hide/show wallpaper in Always on Display

One of the biggest gripes people have with the always-on implementation in iOS 16 is the fact that the wallpaper is always on. This not only affects battery life, but can also distract some people, like me. You can disable wallpaper in iPhone AOD.

  • Go to Settings -> Display & Brightness.
  • Scroll down and tap “Always on Display”. Here, just tap the toggle next to “Show Wallpaper” to turn it off.

That’s it, the AOD will now be a solid black screen over time, iPhone lock screen widgets, and your notifications. No more distracting wallpaper for lock screen.

Hide/show notifications on always-on iPhone

If you want an even cleaner experience with iPhone AOD, you can also turn off always-on-screen notifications. Here’s how.

  • Go to Settings -> Display & Brightness.
  • Scroll down and tap “Always on Display”. Just tap toggle next to “Show notifications” to switch off.

You will no longer see notifications always on Display. So you could enjoy a cleaner and less intrusive experience with iPhone 14 Pro.
