Babar Azam, Pakistan’s all-format captain, has smashed yet another ODI record. The flashy batsman has become the world’s fastest batter to score 5,000 ODI runs, shattering the previous mark held by South African icon Hashim Amla.
Babar broke the record during his 97th ODI innings against New Zealand in the fourth ODI.
Hashim Amla had reached 5,000 runs in 101 innings. Sir Vivian Richards, a West Indian icon, is ranked third, alongside India’s Virat Kohli. It took both players 114 innings to attain the milestone.
The astounding feat of the world’s number one ODI hitter is a testimonial to his batting talent, consistency, and persistence. Since making his debut in 2015, he has been a prolific run-scorer, swiftly establishing himself as one of the world’s best batters.
Babar’s graceful stroke play, exquisite timing, and good technique have helped him make history. Pakistan will be hoping that their star batter can maintain his stunning 50-over form and help them win the forthcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
