Huawei is reportedly working on its own version of the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. This development comes as part of the company’s ongoing efforts to optimize and effectively utilize the small yet significant space available for users on their devices.
According to leaked information, Huawei plans to reintroduce the pill-shaped punch hole feature, which was last seen in the Mate 40 and P40 ranges back in 2020. The company is expected to once again separate the dual cameras and 3D Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors from the bezel. This innovative design is set to make its debut in the upcoming Mate 60 series this autumn.
This move marks Huawei’s first attempt at launching a centrally-positioned dual selfie camera design, a concept that Apple first introduced in their iPhone 14 Pro series. While the integration of two cameras, one being a ToF sensor, is not new to Huawei’s flagship phones, the positioning of these features is what sets the new model apart. In previous Mate phones, these features were located either on the side or behind a full notch.
Apple’s latest iPhones introduced a software feature named Dynamic Island, which creatively utilized the cutout, an aspect that many did not find visually appealing. Huawei, along with other smartphone manufacturers like Realme and Xiaomi, is speculated to take a similar approach, designing notifications and apps around the optimization and effective use of this space.
