Windows 11 24H2 Now Safe for Gaming PCs – BSOD Bug Fixed

Microsoft has now officially removed a compatibility block that was preventing the installation of the Windows 11 version 24H2 update on some of the gaming PCs. This protection was initially set because of a serious bug that would result in crashes on systems with Easy Anti-Cheat, a popular anti-hacking and anti-cheating tool used in online multiplayer games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends.

Some of the affected systems were devices running Intel’s 12th Gen Alder Lake+ processors, especially the vPro platform. Such users were facing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) issues, so they could not update their systems until this bug had been resolved.

Now, it is almost 10 months after the first release of version 24H2, and Microsoft has confirmed in an official support document that the problem has been resolved and update block has been removed.

Some warnings still remain

Although the compatibility hold has been removed, Microsoft cautions that some users will continue to see messages notifying them of an outdated or incompatible version of Easy Anti-Cheat. To prevent this, players should ensure they update any regularly played games to have the latest version of the anti-cheat tool installed.

Moreover, other compatibility issues still can affect select devices, meaning not every PC will be updated immediately.

Windows 11 24H2 rollout timeline

Windows 11 version 24H2 became available initially on June 18, 2024, for new Copilot+ PCs, with a broader rollout following in October. Its release was done in phases, with the last roll-out of the update starting in May 2025, targeting eligible systems without any compatibility holds.

What’s New in Windows 11 Version 24H2?

With 24H2 update, there are various improvements and features, including

  • Phone Link integration directly into the Start menu
  • Native support for creating .7z and .tar archives
  • Direct Android file system access in File Explorer
  • A new Outlook app
  • A standalone Copilot web app

Earlier this year, Microsoft also fixed compatibility problems between third-party wallpaper apps and the popular racing game Asphalt 8.

With the Easy Anti-Cheat problem now resolved, more players will be able to safely update and experience the latest features in Windows 11 version 24H2.
