Due to increasing diesel and petrol prices, the Punjab Transport Department has drafted a plan to hike non-AC bus tickets by more than 250%. According to media reports, the revised prices for intra-city and inter-city non-AC bus services in Lahore will go into effect on April 25.
According to the report, which cites an official document, bus prices between cities would increase by 265%, while those inside cities will increase by 267%. Four-kilometer travel currently costs Rs. 14. This rate will rise to Rs. 47 following an Rs. 33 increase.
This drastic increase will cause issues for those of the lower socioeconomic level who rely on these buses as their principal mode of transportation. Due to rising fuel costs, people are increasingly turning away from private transport, such as motorcycles and cars, and toward public transportation.
With such a drastic increase in fuel prices, people may be forced to cycle or walk to their various destinations.
