The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted an increase in monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea, expected to affect the upper and central regions of the country starting from July 18th. The intensity of these currents is predicted to escalate on July 19th.
The PMD has issued a warning about potential urban flooding in low-lying areas of Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and Lahore from July 18th to 22nd. Additionally, the heavy rainfall may trigger landslides in vulnerable areas such as Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, and hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Farmers have been advised to plan their activities according to the weather forecast. Tourists and travelers are also urged to exercise extra caution to avoid any mishaps during this wet spell. Dust storms or wind thunderstorms could potentially damage loose structures like electric poles and solar panels. The general public is encouraged to seek safe shelter during periods of heavy rain or windstorms.
The PMD has called upon all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and take necessary precautionary measures during the forecast period.
Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy rain and wind-thundershowers are expected in various regions across Pakistan from July 18th to 23rd, with occasional breaks. These regions include Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Peshawar, and many others.
Furthermore, rain and wind-thundershowers are also anticipated in areas like Barkhan, Loralai, Kalat, Khuzdar, Zhob, Lasbella, Awaran, Musakhel, D.G Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, Larkana and Jacobabad from July 19th to 21st.
Dust thunderstorms and rain with isolated heavy falls are likely in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Dadu districts from July 19th to 23rd. Similar weather conditions are expected in Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, and Karachi districts from July 20th to 22nd.
As Pakistan braces for more monsoon rainfall, the PMD’s predictions serve as a crucial reminder for citizens and authorities alike to prepare and respond appropriately to these weather conditions.
