OpenAI has announced a major update for free ChatGPT users, making one of its most popular organizational tools widely available. The Projects feature that was previously only available to ChatGPT Plus subscribers is now provided to free users on both the web and Android apps, with iOS support being added over the coming days.
Projects allow users to group multiple conversations in dedicated folders, and users can easily organize conversations and revisit a specific discussion. For many, it has been a game-changer when it comes to managing the messy ChatGPT history list. Projects provide much-needed control and efficiency to students, professionals, and regular users alike by allowing them to be better categorized.
More New Features for ChatGPT
Alongside Projects, OpenAI is also working on parental controls, allowing parents to have more oversight in how their children use ChatGPT.
Additionally, OpenAI is expanding file upload limits within Projects. Free accounts can now upload up to five files to each project, Plus accounts can upload up to 25 files to each project, and Pro, Business, and Enterprise accounts can upload up to 40 files to each project.
Projects can also be customized with colors and icons so that users can organize them more effectively and personalize them. A new Project-only memory control feature has also been introduced to make sure information remains compartmentalized in each project and to avoid unwanted crossover between personal and professional workspaces.
Projects are currently available to free ChatGPT users on both the web and Android. iOS users should see the update in the coming days, while OpenAI has not shared an exact release date.
