Islamabad United Pays Massive Fee for Naseem Shah in PSL Trade

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United has acquired the services of national team fast bowler Naseem Shah for Rs. 45 million in a trade with Quetta Gladiators.

As per reports, Islamabad United gave up all-rounder Mohammad Wasim Junior and leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed to Quetta Gladiators in exchange for securing Naseem Shah.

The 19-year-old fast bowler represented Quetta Gladiators in the previous PSL season but will now play for Islamabad United in the upcoming PSL 2023.

The trade was announced by the Pakistan Super League on their official Twitter handle on December 2nd.

According to the PSL draft rules, each franchise is allowed to retain up to eight players. The retention list is scheduled to be announced on December 7th after which the draft will take place on December 13th in Lahore.

Some rumors suggest the Pakistan Cricket Board has proposed two different PSL schedules to franchises – one with four venues and one with just two venues. This has upset the Peshawar Zalmi franchise which wants PSL matches to be held at its home venue, the Arbab Niaz Stadium.

With the acquisition of Naseem Shah, Islamabad United has invested heavily to strengthen its fast bowling attack. It remains to be seen if the trade pays dividends and helps them win another PSL trophy.
