Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has publicly criticized Israel and India for their alleged human rights abuses. He also expressed his dissatisfaction with the foreign ministry of his own country, Pakistan, for its perceived weak stance on these two nations.
In a recent tweet, Khan condemned Israel for its audacity to target Pakistan during the United Nations’ Universal Periodic Review (UPR). The UPR is a mechanism through which the UN Human Rights Council scrutinizes the human rights records of all its member states. Khan described Israel as a rogue state that continues to massacre Palestinians, disregarding international laws and norms of behavior.
Furthermore, Khan also criticized India, although he did not specify the nature of the human rights abuses he was referring to. His comments come in the wake of his removal from power following a no-confidence vote in April.
Khan did not spare his own country’s foreign ministry in his criticism. He accused it of having a weak stance on Israel and India’s alleged human rights abuses. According to Khan, this shows a complete collapse of Pakistan’s diplomacy under what he termed as a corrupt and fascist government. He further claimed that this government is causing internal and external damage to Pakistan, leading to a descent into the law of the jungle where might is right.
Khan’s remarks were met with mixed reactions. Many of his followers applauded him for speaking out against Israel and India. However, some critics accused Khan of hypocrisy, noting that he had not spoken out against human rights abuses in Pakistan during his tenure as Prime Minister.
At the time of writing, the foreign ministry has not responded to requests for comment on Khan’s criticisms.
Imran Khan’s public condemnation of Israel and India for alleged human rights abuses, along with his critique of Pakistan’s foreign ministry, has stirred up a significant amount of debate. While some applaud his outspokenness, others question his sincerity given his silence on similar issues during his time in office. As the situation unfolds, the world will be watching to see how these nations respond to Khan’s accusations.
