How to use Google Keep Magic Lists

Being a default note-taking tool, Google Keep is often the go to app for just taking some notes here and there, and simple integration with other Google tools like Docs, and Drive is seamless. If you are writing a note, making a shopping list or even setting a reminder, Google Keep makes it simple. With Magic Lists, also known as the Help Me Create a list feature, Google Keep uses Gemini AI to optimize note-taking to an entirely new level.

What Are Google Keep Magic Lists?

New to Google Keep is Magic Lists, a Gemini AI feature that makes lists based on prompts. Magic Lists generate content for you automatically, if you need a to-do list, a packing list, or a shopping list.

For example, if you want a pack list for a family of four for camping, and type that out in Google Keep it would generate a detailed list of essentials. This tool is especially useful for:

  • Planning trips or events
  • Creating daily to-do lists
  • Creating shopping or grocery lists
  • Organizing complex checklists

Help Me Create a list tool (Magic Lists) first appeared with Google Keep’s code in October 2023, however appears now to be called Magic Lists since then in Google’s documentation.

Who Can Access Magic Lists?

Magic Lists are not ready yet. The feature has been rolled out selectively and is currently accessible to:

  • Google Pixel users
  • Participants’ Google Workspace Labs
  • Google One paid AI subscribers

You can’t subscribe to Enterprise with your Gsuite enterprise account if you don’t meet these criteria, you may need to wait for a broader release subscribe to Google One AI Premium, or enroll in Google Workspace labs.

How to Use Magic Lists in Google Keep

If you have access to the feature, using Magic Lists is very easy. Follow these steps to get started:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of Google Keep.
  • Open the Google Keep on your device.
  • Tap the + button to start a new note.
  • Tap the Help Me Create a list button.
  • Type a description of a list you want, like ‘Grocery list for a keto diet’.
  • Tap Create, and Gemini AI will generate a list for you.
    • Tap Insert if your list is what you need.
    • Want a different version? Tap the refresh icon to create a new list.
  • You can provide feedback by using the thumbs up or the thumbs down icons to the generated content.

Why Use Google Keep for Note-Taking?

Google Keep is packed with features that make it an excellent tool for staying organized:

  • Perfect for quick notes, and a clean interface.
  • Collaborate in real-time and share notes.
  • Built to seamlessly integrate with Google Docs, Sheets, Gmail, and Slides.
  • Voice memos to record, and tag notes to categorize them all easily.

Magic Lists make Keep more powerful, but it’s an app designed for basic, everyday notes. If you want to increase (process) steps, customization, and advanced features, it is possible (and more comfortable) to look for other alternatives, such as Evernote or Notion.

Conclusion

On that note, Google Keep’s Magic Lists by Gemini AI is a huge leap towards note-taking efficiency. This feature saves you time and effort by not only generating smart, tailored lists but also whether you’re planning a trip, creating a checklist, or managing your daily tasks. Magic Lists are poised to emerge as a productivity enthusiast’s indispensable tool as Google continues to grow in availability.
