- UID number is a permanent ID issued with every UAE residence visa
- Required for Emirates ID, labour contract, visa renewal, and more

- Important for expats in the UAE for smooth government transactions
Most expats in the UAE hold residence visas and have thus been issued with a Unified Number (UID), but what is it, and how do you find it? Here is a breakdown of it so that you can know about this important number that is a part of you in the UAE.
What is a unified number (UID)?
Unified Number, also known as the Unified Identification Number (UID), is an 8-10 digit number assigned to all expatriates in the UAE who hold residence visas.
This number remains unchanged even when your visa expires or when you change to a new visa. It does not overlap with your number on your visa; it varies depending on your visa status.
And that same number, the UID, is associated with your Emirates ID and is used by various UAE government departments to identify you and provide you with services.
Why is the unified number important?
According to Sirajudeen Ummer, Public Relations Manager at Galaxy Digital Business Services in Dubai, your UID number is required for:
- Prepare your MOHRE offer letter
- Apply for or renew a labour contract
- Issue or update your Emirates ID
- Convert or renew your residence visa
- Register a business trade license
Having a UID number can provide faster access to official services, such as visa verification, updating personal details, and obtaining approval for government services.
