A video showcasing the new character-switching mechanism in the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has surfaced online. The footage was shared by an X profile on September 16, 2023.
The video reveals a seamless transition between two rumored new protagonists, Jason and Lucia, demonstrating the graphical details of both characters and the open-world graphics.
Despite a window popup obscuring a significant portion of the screen, the character switch could be clearly observed.
In the current Grand Theft Auto game, Rockstar Games has implemented two methods for switching characters. If the playable characters are nearby, the camera takes a rounded approach to the new character.
If the characters are far apart, the camera zooms out of the map, locates the new character, and drops onto them.
However, the leaked GTA 6 footage introduces a new technique for close switching. The camera and controls instantly shift to the new character accompanied by a “whoosh” sound effect and a white flashing screen.
This was demonstrated in the video when the leaker moved Jason away from Lucia in a motel room and initiated the switch. The camera immediately shifted to Lucia with the same effects.
While this seamless character-switching is also available in the current Grand Theft Auto game, it will be intriguing to see how Rockstar Games enhances this mechanism for long-distance situations in the upcoming release.
It’s important to note that the video was reportedly from the pre-alpha stage, and as is customary, Rockstar Games may alter the implementation during the final release.
Both Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive, have been striving to keep GTA 6 leaks confidential, making this leaked footage a rare glimpse into the much-anticipated game.
