Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan Takes to TikTok

Former Pakistani Prime Minister and chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has joined the globally popular short-video-sharing platform TikTok. This move comes in the wake of multiple legal cases against Khan following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote last year.

Khan’s political career faced significant challenges after the events of May 9, when his supporters allegedly attacked military installations. This incident led to several PTI leaders distancing themselves from the party. Despite these setbacks, Khan’s decision to join TikTok has been met with an enthusiastic response from the public.

Within the first day of joining the platform, Khan’s follower count exceeded 860,000. The PTI’s official Twitter account reported that within the first three hours alone, Khan’s TikTok account had amassed 100,000 followers and received 12 million views.

Khan’s inaugural post on TikTok featured clips from his public gatherings and speeches. In the caption, he expressed his admiration for the creativity of the youth, particularly those from rural areas, who use the platform. He stated, “Our social media team shows me incredible clips from TikTok made by youth, even from rural regions. I’ve decided to join this platform to connect with you all.”

This move signifies Khan’s commitment to maintaining a strong public presence and engaging with his followers, despite the political challenges he faces.
