The structure of Islam is based on five pillars, which are the basic foundation of a Muslim’s life, and following those basic pillars of Islam is a mandatory responsibility. These five pillars are as follows:
1. Shadah
2. Salat (Prayers)
3. Zakat (charity)
4. Hajj (pilgrimage)
5. Sawm (Fasting)
Doing these commitments provides the system for a Muslim’s life, combining their regular exercises and principles into a solitary material of strict dedication.
List of five Pillars of Islam
The pillars of Islam, also known as Arqan e Islam, are the basic principles that every Muslim must follow in the interest of leading a decent and mindful life according to Islam. These five pillars are as follows:
1. Shadah
Shadah is the first pillar of Islam which means the testimony of faith. It consists of two things the first is that “there is no God except Allah” and the second is “Muhammad (S.A.W) is the messenger of Allah”. This announcement of faith means the passage of the believer into the more extensive community of Muslims and is expected of changes over to Islam.
2. Salat (Prayers)
It is the second basic pillar of Islam. Muslims perform prayers five times a day. The importance can be observed with this that Allah Almighty orders about seven hundred times in the Holy Quran to establish prayer. The daily five prayers are Fajar, Zuhr, Asar, Maghrib, and Isha.
3. Zakat (charity)
Zakat or charity is the third basic principle that is necessary because Giving zakat signifies ‘giving a predefined rate on specific properties to specific classes of destitute individuals.’ Allah instructed thirty-two times in the Holy Quran to give Zakat.
4. Hajj (pilgrimage)
Hajj is the 4th main pillar which is mandatory once in life for those who can afford it. The Hajj is an image of solidarity and fellowship of Muslims. They accumulate on that day by expressing the same words, wearing the same dresses and every one of them having conviction at one God, the maker of every one of them, Allah.
5. Sawm (Fasting)
Its fifth main pillar of Islam or arqan e Islam helps realizes the troubles of those people who remain underprivileged without option and it makes a sense of goodness and enthusiasm to help those people. Muslims practice fasting in the holy month of Ramadan which is obligatory for Muslims to fast in this month and it means during the fast they are not allowed to eat and drink from dawn to sunset.
